In this uva comprehensive student report I share my thoughts about learning in my first year at Cal State Northridge.
Although the course has changed significantly since the last one, I think that the same questions still apply. I believe that the first few weeks of a new college experience are crucial in shaping a person’s mindset, and the course I was taking at CSUN isn’t a bad place to start.
First of all, I would like to address my fellow students, and myself, because this would be the first time we’re all on the same page. Everyone is different, and no matter how much you think you know, there’s always room for improvement. I would like to start by saying that I am not trying to say that everyone should start studying this course with a vengeance.
As a student, I have to say that I am very impressed with the amount of work our class has put into preparing us for this. I know this because I have seen the quality of work put in by our other students. I think I am just a tiny bit biased, because for the most part, the class is really helpful and we are all trying to do our best. But I think there are some aspects that our class misses.
We don’t have any exams. Instead we have a whole bunch of quizzes to keep us accountable and help us to better understand the content. The content is great because it covers the basics of every major subject. It’s a very good way to get a good grasp on the material without spending too much time on it. But the tests are just way too long to pass them, and they make it really hard to learn the material.
I know that I have said this before, but some students are really not learning. I want to say that I had an extremely high student satisfaction rating on the last class I took. The only reason I know that is because I did the homework and wrote a lot of answers in that class. But I am not sure that I would have had such a high rating if I had not taken the class. I think some students were lazy and didn’t want to take the time to do it.
Well, you can’t blame them! They’re in a classroom where you are being required to spend a lot of time. I’ve had classes where I sat in a room with a bunch of smart students and spent my entire time trying to answer questions. Some of the students are really smart, but they are also very motivated and want to do well. You want to try and encourage them.
It’s been said that we can only learn from others in a class environment. If you are going to teach a class, you want to be well aware of what you are doing and how other students are doing.
This is especially true if you are in a class with multiple students. This is where you want to be really mindful of what you are doing and how the other students are doing. You want to be on the lookout for the way that a student is spending class time, asking them questions, and trying to encourage them to go the extra mile. If you spend your class time in a classroom setting, you are more likely to get bored and confused and less likely to try to learn anything.
Not to mention you can get tired of the repetitive lecture and try to find other ways to engage the class. The best way to do this is by inviting them to take part in the discussion. This is where you want to be asking questions and looking them in the eyes, asking them about their interests, and giving them the opportunity to show they are intelligent.
